‘Captured: Highlands County’ Photography Competition Awards & Exhibit Opening Reception Set for July 8

SEBRING, Fla. (July 6, 2016) – The Highlands Museum of the Arts (MoTA) is pleased to host its third annual photography competition and exhibition, which will be on exhibit July 8 – September 16, 2016 with 11 photographers exhibiting 62 photographs taken in Highlands County. The awards ceremony and opening reception will be held on July 8 from 5:00-7:00 PM with awards announced at 6:00 PM.

This year’s theme is “Captured: Highlands County” as MoTA is partnering with the Highlands County Tourism Development Council (TDC) to feature the unique images that are uniquely found in Highlands County. The competition was open to local and regional photographers of all ages. This year’s competition includes a special youth category for photographers under the age of 18. Sponsors include: Highlands Co. TDC (Promotional Partner), News Sun (Media Sponsor) and Jarrett Family Foundation (Awards Sponsor).

Competition winners will be announced at the Opening Reception on July 8, and cash awards totaling $500 will be presented as follows:
(1) Best in Show (Any Age) – winner will receive $250 and a complimentary booth at the 50th Annual Fine Arts & Crafts Festival on Nov. 5-6, 2016.
(2) Best Photo by Young Photographer (under 18 years of age by July 8) – winner will receive $100 and complimentary Emerging Artist exhibit space at the 50th Annual Fine Arts & Crafts Festival on Nov. 5-6, 2016.
(3) Honorable Mentions – winners will receive recognition during the exhibit. One winner will be selected from each category and receive ($50):
a. Liveliness
b. Landscapes, waterscapes and flora
c. Landmark
